Dunn Brothers Coffee: A Subscription-First Online Coffee Shop on Shopify

The Challenge

Dunn Brothers Coffee is a national coffee franchise that roasts in its coffeehouses. They wanted a direct-to-consumer shop where fans could buy their coffee online, subscribe to it and send it as a gift, in the brand they already had.

We designed and built that shop, shop.dunnbrothers.com, in spring 2025. Their main site, dunnbrothers.com, runs separately.

The Build

Our designer created the shop in Figma from Dunn Brothers’ brand, working through mockups and feedback with their team. We built it on a premium Shopify theme, customized to match, and it went live in May 2025, about seven weeks after the first mockup.

Subscriptions first

• Recharge subscriptions on the coffee, with 15% off monthly deliveries
• A subscription collection so subscribers can find their roast fast
• Subscribers manage their own deliveries

Helping people choose

• A coffee-matching quiz that guides a shopper to a roast
• Collections by roast, origin, single-serve and tea

Gifting and trade

• Gift subscriptions and gift cards
• Wholesale products in the same store, visible only to trade buyers
• A hand-off to the franchise location finder for anyone who wants to visit a coffeehouse

The Results

• About 7 weeks from first mockup to a live shop
• Subscriptions, a quiz and gifting built in from launch day
• Still serving customers today on the shop we built (live shop checked October 2026)
